WONG FAMILY TAKE ON LENE & WEEKLY REPORT

CANAL CRACKERS: Recently Julian Kendrict sent us in some cracking photographs of his and fellow Daingean man, Conor Brown’s catch in the Daingean open match competition fished on the Grand Canal. It’s a busy time now for match anglers and on July 10th the Leinster League 6 will be fished. The venue has not been decided yet but the contact details for this is Brian O’Donoghue @ 086-3658461. Also, the All Ireland Fishing Championships are being fished on July 31st. All the information can be checked on www.ncffi.ie

LENE CRACKERS: Plenty of anglers are out and about on Lene and it is producing nice fish on the fly and troll. Sam and Jackie Wong were over from California and boated some lovely fish in calm conditions. Sam was very impressed with the quality of the fishing on Lene and also the facilities at Fagan’s Point. Also chilling out on Lene were Edvinas Cinga and pal Mantas Martinauskas, originally from Lithuania, but living in Ireland quite a number of years now. They had a few lovely rainbows and pike on a variety of colourful lures, with orange floating baits working best.

LARRY MULLIGAN CUP: Our first evening competition is coming up on Friday 15th July and on the night the top prize is the Larry Mulligan Cup. This fly fishing competition will be fished from 7pm-11.15pm and it’s sponsored by C.Lynch Angling Center in Navan.

JIMMY NEA CUP: Ennell anglers are also in action this month and host the Jimmy Nea Cup, a fly-fishing competition. It’s a 7pm start and finishes at 11pm. Check in is at Whitebridge Bay. Lilliput Boat hire has a fleet of boats and engines for hire, if you fancy a trip across Ennell, contact Pete on 087-6492866.

PIKE FROM ENNELL: Recently I had a day out on Ennell with Michael McShane, we only did a few hours, but Michael managed to catch his first Ennell pike. We trolled in 12-15ft of water, and the pike took a shine to a very bright Zalt lure. Another day is planned with Michael, and we will be trying to entice a few more pike to hit our lures.

PIKE & PREDATOR: July’s Pike and Predator magazine is out on the shelves and the front cover is our Italian pal Stefano Balisario with his 109cm pike caught on the fly on Lough Ree. It’s a beautiful looking pike and the magazine in packed with eye catching photographs of anglers and their prized catches. Also, check out the new ‘Savage gear 3 D Line Thru’, trout, pike and perch coloured baits. They will certainly work and should be available in most angling centers.
