Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association juvenile anglers were on a recruitment drive last weekend at the 2014 Annual Angling Fair. The lads were on hand to encourage juveniles to consider fly angling as a pastime with Ciaran Reilly from Loughrea, Sean Dempsey from Athlone and Andrew Rae from Banbridge giving fly tying demonstrations and providing information on organised fly angling as a sport. Robert Farrington from Dublin and Darragh Reilly from Loughrea were hard at work selling raffle tickets to raise those all-important funds and nobody escaped their net with Minister O’Dowd and RTE presenter Derek Davis both being caught hook, line and sinker to support the fundraising raffle.
Now guys, it’s time to put those computer games to one side and learn how to relax and enjoy life as an angler. If you are considering taking up the sport, it’s not only great fun and a way of making new friends, you may also get the opportunity to travel throughout Ireland and Great Britain to represent your country at one of the International Fly Angling Matches.
Our youths would like to thank, Ms June Pilikigton of Climb8, and everybody who supported them by purchasing raffle tickets and Juveniles interested in taking up the sport can contact our Youths Officer, Mr Frank Dempsey, at fgdempsey@gmail.com.
