MIDLAND ANGLING WEEKLY REPORT 9/5/15

PIKE TRIP SEALED WITH A KISS. What a few days pike fishing our pals from Abruzzo had here in the Midlands, and our main picture last week of Andrea Palma with a huge Ree pike rocked the Angling World. The lads have returned home with some fantastic memories of their angling adventure here in Westmeath, and a huge gallery of photographs to show their family members and angling pals. We had many super catches during the week, but the highlight of the week was Stefano Balisario with his super pike of 24lbs on the fly.

JOE TOP ROD ON GLORE. Well done to Mullingar angler Joe Murray on winning the Lough Glore club pike competition last Sunday. Joe is quite handy at the pike angling and had a lovely pike of 8lbs13oz to take top rod. Ronan Cox finished 2nd with 3lbs 13oz, and Pat Daly, along with Pat O’Neill finished joint 3rd with 3lbs 8oz. Glore Anglers are open for membership and have quite a few competitions coming on line if you fancy a day out. Contact Eddie O’Donnell for more info on 086-4043867.

VINCENT SMITH MEMORIAL CUP. Whitelake Anglers here in North Westmeath, hosted the Vincent Smith Memorial Cup last Sunday May 3rd.This trout competition proved a huge success with some lovely fish being banked. On the day, Kieran Flynn of Carnaross was top rod with a fine trout of 4lbs 13oz, 2nd was Athboy angler Jody Fagan with 4lbs 8oz, and 3rd was Laytown angler Declan Browning with 4lbs 2oz. Xena Fagan topped the junior section with 5lbs 10oz, James O’Neill of Trim was 2nd with 3lbs 9oz, and 3rd was Linda O’Connor of Dunshaughlin with 2lbs 8oz. Paddy Smith of Castlepollard, son of the late Vincent, presented the winners with their prizes. Whitelake Anglers are back in action on the competition scene on June 7th and on the day the Joe Farrelly Memorial Cup will be fished.

THOMAS ON LENE. The May bank holiday weekend had a few visitors drifting across the Midlands. Alan Thomas of Carrickfergus was back down visiting relations and got away for a few hours fishing. Alan has featured before in our angling slot and loves the fishing & shooting game, so naturally we got on quite well. Alan has fished Owel and Ennell and fancied a day on Lene for pike and trout. We had a super few hours catching hard fighting rainbows and colourful brownies on the troll and fly and after lunch we managed to boat a nice pike of 8-9lbs.

LED MAGNETIC TRAILER LIGHTS. Just to let you know, Lenehan Motor Factors, down in Lynn Industrial Estate, has the LED Magnetic Trailer Light Kits in stock. They come with a 10m cable and are a sealed unit, making it fully waterproof. Now, with more anglers towing their boats, these trailer lights are the business. For more information give Michael Lenehan a bell on 044-93-42415.
