LENE WINNERS AND UPCOMING EVENTS

MICHAEL HEALY CUP: On Friday evening, August 5th, Lough Lene Angling Association hosted the Michael Healy Memorial Cup. This evening Peter competition fished from 7pm-11pm and produced some cracking rainbow trout. On the night, Dundalk angler Gavin Doyle was top rod with a splendid fish of 1.96kg, closely followed by Gerry Kelly with another fine trout of 1.84kg. In 3rd place was Turin angler Jerome Cully with 1.78kg and Mullingar angler Pat Liddy was 4th with 1.74kg. In the junior section, David King of Dunsany Co.Meath, produced a fish of 1.30kg to take first place with McCauley Fox taking 2nd with 1.28kg. The presentation took place at Fagan’s Point and Tom Fagan, Chairman of Lough Lene Angling Association, thanked all who fished the competition and the sponsor on the night, C.L.F.Transport. On hand for the presentation was Eilish Gavigan, sister of the late Michael Healy, and young Elisha Gavigan, granddaughter of Eilish. There is only one trout competition left on the 2016 calendar of events this year for Lene anglers. On September 25th the popular chairman’s pairs fly fishing competition is penciled in. All proceeds from this event go to R.N.L.I. There will be more on this in the coming weeks.

JIMMY NEA CUP: On Friday night, July 29th, Ennell anglers hosted the Jimmy Nea evening competition and some nice wild brown trout turned up on the night. Pat Dunne produced a cracker of 3.72lbs to take home the Jimmy Nea Cup, in 2nd place was Conor Lynch with 3.69lbs, 3rd was Noel Fitzpatrick with 2.51lbs and 4th was John Brennan with 2.25lbs. In the coming weeks we will have the Lough Ennell Perpetual Cup coming up on August 28th and it’s an 11am-7pm fly fishing competition. The Lough Ennell Perpetual Cup is sponsored by my old angling pal Con Hope and we will have more on this event in the coming weeks.

DAN MULLALLY TROPHY: Lough Owel anglers had to cancel the Dan Mullally Trophy, which was to take place on Wednesday night August 3rd. That evening it was blowing a gale across Owel and it was simply too dangerous to venture out. Not to worry, we have a few very exciting few days coming up on Owel, with the Dan Mullally taking place this Thursday evening, August 11th, with fishing 7pm-11pm. On Sunday we will be lashing flies out across Owel once again with the popular Patti Doolin Perpetual Shield taking place. This competition will be fished from 11am-7pm and if you need boat hire on Owel please contact Jack Doolin on 044-93-42085.
