Kerr joins Irish Ladies Flyfishing Team squad as their new coach for the 2019 International Ladies Flyfishing Championships, in England next week.

Brian Kerr, from Keady, Co. Armagh, who has represented Ireland at International and World championships for fly-fishing has joined the Irish Ladies International Fly-fishing Team squad, as their new coach for the 2019 Ladies International Flyfishing Championships being held at Draycote Waters, Warwickshire, England on the 6th June, 2019.

Brian, is the current Commonwealth champion, winning Team and Individual Gold at the 2018 championships, he has qualified for the Commonwealth Championships in New Zealand and the European Championships in Norway 2010. He has also qualified to represent Ireland at 2019 bank international held later this year in Ireland Brian hopes to bring a lot of his own international experience to the Ladies Team and will be hoping to bring home the Gold  medals   from next week’s Ladies International Flyfishing Championships.

Brian’s partner, Linda Straghan is a member of the Irish Ladies Flyfishing team and has won team gold on Carragh Lake, at the Home Internationals in 2013.  Linda won the Brown Bowl, the top individual honour for the No 1. rod  from the four competing countries at the International Championships on Carragh Lake, Co. Kerry  (2013) and on Lough Melvin, Co Fermanagh (2017). Linda also fished the Commonwealths last year for the Northern Ireland Team was the first and only woman to have done so. She was 2nd top lady and 26th overall. 

The Ladies Flyfishing International Championships are fished each year, rotating between the four Home Countries England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. This will be Team Ireland’s 27th year to compete at the Ladies International Championships having won gold in 2009 and 2013, this year they will be hoping to bring home the gold from across the waters to be the first success on ‘away waters’.

The Management team this year, include Brian (Kerr), Team Coach, Kevin Dinning, Team Manager, from Newcastle upon Tyne, who has many years of International  experience in all methods of fishing and Mark Dermott from Portadown, Co. Armagh as their official fly-tyer.

Brian, has been coaching the ladies team on Straid Fishery, Co. Antrim and Eskeragh Lake in Co. Tyrone this year, teaching them new skills and methods for international flyfishing competitions.

Julie Gerry, from Collinstown, Co. Westmeath will captain the Ladies Team for her 7th time year, and her 17 Cap with the Ladies Team, Julie has 5 Senior Mens Teams Caps also for Ireland, she also won the World Cup in 2004.
