GOING WILD IN THE MIDLANDS & WEEKLY REPORT

SAVAGE TROUT CAUGHT ON OWEL: The Monasterevin Anglers were back on Owel last Saturday for their annual competition.  We have featured the club members over the years as they honour one of their past members Timmy Meredith. The day they fish is known as “Timmy’s Day” and this year the fishing was tough, but the club members had a fantastic day out. There was great excitement on Church Island at lunch time as club member Rob Hughes arrived in with a huge Owel trout just over 9lbs. It’s one of the biggest trout we have featured on Angling Focus that was caught on Owel and I reckon there is more savage fish in Owel.

ON THE HIGH SEAS: It’s that time of the year again when some of our local anglers head out to the high sea as summer conditions are ideal for getting out on some of Ireland’s top charter boats. Last week, Pauric Martin from Harbour Court had a lovely day out in Doolin Co.Clare. On the day, Martin boated some fine Pollack, some hitting the 12lbs mark. It is great fishing and a wonderful table fish if you are into eating fish.

LONGWOOD FAMILY GOING WILD: Some weeks back we featured 8 year old Moya Molloy from Longwood, who had a wonderful day fishing with her dad Christy. The deadly duo were on the Whitelake and had some cracking rainbow trout. Brian Conlon of Wild Total Outdoors was so impressed with young Moya’s catch that he sponsored the young Longwood angler a very special prize. It was a beautiful prize and Brian put a huge selection of fishy gear into a lovely pink tackle box. Brian will be keeping an eye on our weekly angling reports and if a special angling adventure is featured he will come on line with some more cracking prizes. Wild Total Outdoors is situated at Friars Mill Road and has a huge range of coarse, game and sea angling gear. A huge range of outdoor clothing can also be checked out on www.wildtotaloutdoors.com or call 044-9301133.
