A DUTCH OF CLASS: I had the pleasure of meeting Rob Melis and his son Marco last week and they are some tulips. Marco is 6ft 7 in height and my arms are still sore from rowing the boat on Mount Dalton. The lads had a fantastic few days in Mullingar and really enjoyed the craic in Jimmy Wallace’s after the days fishing. The lads caught some cracking trout and Marco also had his first Irish pike. Rob travels’ the world with his job and Mullingar is penciled in for another trip in the near future.
LONGWOOD ANGLERS: The Whitelake in North Westmeath is producing some cracking rainbow trout of late and 7 year old Moya Molloy is making waves in the Angling World. Moya and her dad Christy from Longwood in Co. Meath had a day to remember catching some super trout. With the summer holidays on line Moya and dad Christy are gearing up for a few more days on the Whitelake. This is great stuff and be sure to keep us posted on your angling adventures.
ATHLONE ANGLERS: Another young angler, Jade Cunningham, is also reeling with excitement these days. Jade and her dad Philip had some cracking wild brown trout from Ree, including a beautiful 5lbs trout that Jade is holding. Philip told us 13 year old Jade really has the fishing bug, and can’t wait for another day out on Ree.
STUNTMAN SEAN: Sean Condren was back in town last week and gave a lash at the pike fishing on the fly. We hit Derravaragh and it was a brutal wet day, but we had some nice pike. Mind you, they were not big monster pike but Sean had his first few pike on the fly, and really enjoyed the days fishing. Sean has appeared in quite a few films as a stuntman, and we will hopefully get out for another days fishing soon.
LAKELAND ANGLERS: Well done to Tosh Grimes of Ginnell Terrace on winning the Caffreys sponsored prize on Lough Conn recently. Martin McGorian also picked up the Sammy Smith Cup on the Lakeland anglers weekend away. The Caffreys prize will be presented at the end of season competition in October and all going well I will be Out & About and will catch Tosh and Dinny in Caffreys on camera.
