DUNDON CAN COOK.I invited Kevin Dundon down for a days fishing last week and we had a cracking day on Lene. Kevin was joined by Caoimhe Young Editor of the Sunday World magazine and her dad Brendan. As we loaded up I had told some fellow Anglers to drop back into Fagan’s Point for 1-30pm as its not two often us poor Anglers have their own personal Chef. I was under a bit of pressure to catch the dinner, but we had some cracking Trout up on 3lbs in the Morning session and the Kevin lad was in the thick of the action. Now it was time to see how Kevin was under pressure in the kitchen, and he came out on Top by serving 13 hungry anglers with a mouth-watering trout lunch. Caoimhe and her dad Brendan also caught a few lovely fish, and I am sure we will see Kevin and the Sunday World team back in the Midlands this coming summer all going well.
OWEL TROUT. Quite a few boats are Out & About on Owel and some nice fish are coming on line we are told. I hope to give it a lash later this week, and catch my first Owel trout of the season. Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association are holding their Annual General Meeting tonight Wednesday March 12th and it’s an 8pm start. Once again the splendid Tullaghan Angling Center is the venue. Lough Trout Preservation Association host their first competition on Sunday April 13th and up for grabs is the Ace Perpetual Cup. Also taking place in April is the I.T.F.F.A. Youths fundraiser with top prize a new 19ft Kingfisher boat. This takes place on 27th April. More on these events in the coming weeks.
LOUGH REE BEAUTY. Athlone Anglers Philip Cunningham and his dad Timmy are reeling in some good trout from Lough Ree.On their most recent Angling adventure it was Timmy that came up trumps and netted a super brown trout of 7lbs on the troll. Lough Ree will produce a few more cracking fish in the coming weeks and might be worth checking out over the break for St. Patrick weekend.
TAFI NEWS. I received a press release from the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland and they are up in arms over proposed changes in the Angling regulations here in Ireland. I hope to have the full press release up on my site later in the week, but here are a few regulations that TAFI will vehemently oppose. A compulsory Angling charge. A register for Anglers. A National Identity Card. The imposition of Penalty points on its members. Any attempt to alter the current status enjoyed by our member clubs through title research. TAFI members are asked to lobby their local Politicians seeking their support in preventing any changes in the current angling regulations.

EDDIE GAVIN R. I .P. Recently we received news that Eddie Gavin of Ginnell Terrace sadly passed away. Eddie who was aged 75 enjoyed many days trolling on the Midland lakes with his nephews, and will be sadly missed. On behalf of Angling Focus we send our deepest sympathy to the Gavin family here in Mullingar.
THAT’S IT. It’s getting busy on the Angling scene and hard to keep on line with all the news items. Enjoy your St Patrick weekend, and let us know how you got on fishing over Paddies weekend. Tight Lines till next week.
