CUNNING FOX CATCHES KILLUCAN RAINBOW TROUT

Another action packed Angling Focus this week, with pike, trout, and perch featuring in the net. On the trout scene Retired Guinness lads Val Wynne and Owen McEnteggart were back in town, and had a few lovely days on Mount Dalton and Lough Lene.Lakepoint Anglers Ronan Fox and Declan Deegan had a super evening on Derrymore Springs Rainbow fishery near Killucan.On the pike scene I had a day on Ree with Barry Darby and we boated a few lovely pike on colorful lures. On Lene my twins Adam and Keith got their summer fishing trips off to a flyer with some nice pike. Plus we had YO-YO the Terrier on board. On Owel Andrew Lord and pal Yassen Mechal had some colorful perch and pike trolling small lures. Also this week Lough Ennell anglers have changed the date for the first Peter competition, and we high light damage done to angling stands at Ballinafid Lake.

OWEN AND VAL BACK IN TOWN. Last week Owen McEnteggart and pal Val Wynne were back in Mullingar.The lads worked for Guinness and Owen deliver for years to pubs and hotels here in Mullingar, plus he had some great memories of delivering to Columb Barracks. We had a few enjoyable evening on Lene and Mount Dalton and caught some nice trout on the fly. The lads also took a trip down memory Lene, and dropped into some of the pubs in town, chilling out in Wallace’s Mount Street where they were “Reeling In the Years” with Jimmy Wallace.

DERRYMORE RAINBOWS MET THEIR MATCH.Lakepoint Anglers Ronan Fox and Declan Deegan had a super evening last week on Derrymore Springs Fishery near Killucan.The lads struggled for the first hour, but sure enough they eventually out foxed the rainbows on Derrymore.Its a beautiful fishery and in years to come will really take off, and bring many anglers to Westmeath. I hope to have contact details in the coming weeks for Derrymore Springs, in the mean time just Google Derrymore, or give me a bell.

PIKE ON THE MOVE. Some lovely pike are on the move as the water temperature hits 20 degrees. Last week on Ree I teamed up with Barry Darby and we had some lovely fish on a variety of colorful lures. The fish were in mint condition and Lough Ree was crystal clear the day we fished. On Lene my twins Adam and Keith had some lovely pike trolling small Lures, and got their summer fishing forays off to a flyer. The lads also took their Terrier Yo-Yo, he is some mutt and cost me 2 Euro hence the name YO-YO.Ree and Lene will fish well in the coming weeks for pike, and well worth checking out.

LORD AND MECHAL. Andrew Lord of Crosshaven and pal Yassen Mechal of Abu Dhabi had a super day on Owel last Sunday. The lads boated pike, perch and one small trout trolling, and really enjoyed the day. Andrew is in Mullingar visiting his Grandparents George and Ann Lord Dublin Road Mullingar, and Ann is looking forward to seeing the lads in Westmeath Topic. We dropped into Srudarra Island on Owel and met local anglers Andy Gavin Mullingar with his grandson Alexander Henry and his dad James from the Downes.You never know who you meet on the waterways.

ENNELL PETER COMPETITION.Lough Ennell trout preservation Association have changed the date for the Jimmy Nea Cup.It was penciled in for July 25th, but now will be fished this coming Friday July 18th.The Peter is up on Ennell and some nice trout are being caught late into the night .The Jimmy Nea cup will be fished from 7pm-11pm.Check –in Whitebridge Bay, new members more that welcome.

LARRY MULLIGAN CUP. Also on Friday night July 18th Lough Lene Anglers will host the Larry Mulligan Cup. Its a 7pm start from Fagan’s Point and weigh- in at 11-15pm.On Friday August 8th the club will host the Michael Healy Cup and we will have more on this competition in the coming weeks.

DAMAGE TO STANDS ON BALLINAFID. Now we finish off with news of some damage done to the stands on Ballinafid.Local coarse anglers were baffled to know why some Twits actually lit a fire on one of the stands while they were fishing. Ballinafid is one of our top Carp fisheries and many local and visiting anglers fish this lake.
