GOOGLE LADS: Our pals from Google were back drifting across the midlands recently and had a lovely day trolling. Arseny Ivanov of St Peterburg, Pavel Pimshin of Volgograd and Baur Sauranbek of Kazakhstan caught some lovely perch and trout on a variety of small lures, including rainbow trout colours and fire tiger lures. These are available in our local angling centers. The lads are planning another trip soon, as our trout season is winding down, but will also take time off from the Google offices in Barrow Street, Dublin for some winter pike and perch fishing.
TYRRELL DELIVERS GOODS FROM OWEL: Lough Owel Anglers were in action last Sunday and fished the Clonhugh Cup. This was the last club competition of the 2016 season and twenty-five trout were presented at the 7pm weigh-in. Quite a few fish were also caught and returned on the day. Local postman Alan Tyrrell was top rod with a trout of 1.320kg, John Plunkett finished 2nd with 1.300kg, John Reid was 3rd with 1.285kg and 4th was Brendan Murray with 1.240kg. Brendan also picked up the Tommy McCormack Cup presented by Mick McCormack to the top Lough Owel Angler during the 2016 season fly-fishing competitions. Lough Owel will produce a few good fish in the coming weeks and the trout season will close on October 12th. For boat hire on Owel give Jack Doolin a bell on 044-93-42085.
LENE CLOSES ON SEPTEMBER 30TH: Lough Lene is producing some nice trout on the dap we are told and club members are gearing up for the Chairman Pairs competition. This is the last fly-fishing competition on Lene and all proceeds this year will go to R.N.L.I. It will take place on Sunday September 25th and members can invite a friend to compete in this year’s pairs competition. Fishing is from 11am-6pm from Fagan’s Point.
COMPETITION CLASH: Unfortunately some of our club competitions clash at times and it’s not possible to compete in all the events. In the coming weeks, Ennell anglers have a few big fly-fishing competitions penciled in. On Sunday September 18th the O’Malley Cup will be fished and on Sunday 25th the Christy Sleator Perpetual Cup will take place. Both competitions are fished from 11am-7pm starting and finishing at Whitebridge Bay.
