Esox Lucius 6,3`40-140g Jerk Rod

Now that the hot summer days are here the resident perch on our lakes are very active and hitting fry. Last Friday on Ennell I spent a few hours with my daughter April.

On the day I was fishing the Esox Lucius 6,3` 40-140g Jerk Rod. What a Magic wand by Broman O Dell. It’s a super lightweight and can fire a lure some distance. I had the match made in heaven with an Abu Garcia bait caster loaded with Berkley Whiplash Crystal the new Translucent Formula. The lures were simple small Spinners, Rapala, and some of the Storm small perch imitations. The day was quite warm on the Lake with a good breeze, which kept the boat drifting along nicely. From early morning we saw perch sculling as they chased shoals of fry across the huge weed beds. In no time at all April was in action and had some nice perch on a Mepps Lucox No3. The top tip this week when perch fishing is Blue Nail Polish, the perch go mad for it. Check pic of April with one of her Ennell perch.

Soon I had the Esox Lucius lightweight bent into fish. It handled well and was perfect for accurate casting along the weed beds. Also ideal for flicking lures through the huge lilly pads where the fish were homing in on Fry. I fired all makes and weights of lures and had no problems. Still the most reliable were bright colored Rapala and the Storm Perch. In all we boated 9 Perch and 3 pike on the day. Great sport with light tackle.

The Rod was purchased in Anglers World, along with the Lures. Its a fantastic angling Centre at Balmoral Business Park in Navan. They have a next Day Delivery Service, so its on line shopping. www.anglersworld.ie
