World Cup Results and Photos

LOUGH MASK WORLD CUP 2010. (We hope to have full results later today)

The 53rd World Cup Fly Fishing Championships took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. With qualifying day on Thursday Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, finishing up on Monday with the Final.

It was certainly another packed weekend of action on Mask. Mind you conditions on Thursday left the fishing tough and only 10 anglers produced fish. The rest of the weekend the fishing improved, and some anglers recorded some fine catches.

Thursday Stan McCart was top rod with 2 trout for 2.83lbs.

Friday over 90 trout were brought to scale and Michael Gough was in flying form with 5 trout for 6.27lbs.

Saturday just over 80 trout were boated and Nigel Green had 4 trout for 5.32lbs.

On Sunday I dropped down and fished the qualifier. Unfortunally I failed to entice a Mask trout, and managed to rise a few small fish. Still up on another 80 trout were caught and Martin McGorian topped the day with 5 trout for 7.06lbs. Also that day Strabane angler John McElwee produced a monster trout of 6.19lbs. This super catch held out to win John a new 19ft Burke Boat for the Heaviest trout caught over the 5 days.

On Final day Monday August 2nd another good gross weight was needed to top the day and the 2010 World Cup winner was Mike Keady of Moycullen, Co Galway. The presentation took place at Cushlough Bay and main sponsor John Paddy Burke of Burkes Boats presented Mike with his new Anglers Fancy Boat.
