PERCH AND PIKE PUT A SMILE ON ANGLERS.
Yes once again we have a colourful angling report for this week. Young Andrew Niven produced a Monster pike from Ennell. On the Perch scene, we put a smile on Colgate boss Patrick Coyne. You never know who you meet in the Angling World. We spent a few hours on Owel, with Hugh Byrne and the Coyne lads. On the competition scene it’s all hands on deck. Owel and Lene anglers will be in action after the August weekend.
PERCH MAKE YOU SMILE. Well there you go. We had Colgate boss in Mullingar Saturday. Hugh Byrne of Daniel J.Byrne & Company Solicitors, Ormond Court, Dublin, brought Patrick and Vincent Coyne down for a few hours. Vincent is in the Solicitor game and is with McCann and Fitzgerald in Dublin, and the Paddy boy is Colgate boss. We put a smile on the lads face on Owel and managed a few perch and Vincent landed one small pike. Mind you the high light of the day was Hugh Byrnes barbeque. Great stuff, he asked that I did not print pic. No problem. Here you have Mullingar lad Hugh Byrne cooking up a storm.
ENNELL MONSTER FOR NIVEN. We received a cracking photo of young Andrew Niven with a real Monster pike from Ennell.Andrew stuck it out for two days prior to landing his prized catch at 10pm one night on Ennell. Priceless photo of a super catch. Well done Andrew and keep at the Angling.
LENE WHOPPER. We received a few photos this week of one of the biggest Brownies from Lene in recent years. The 7lbs 8oz cracked was caught by Jim O’ Reilly from Mountnugent, Co Cavan. Jim latched onto the fish at 9pm last Monday night, and the fish took a Dry Green Peter tied by legendary Peter O’ Reilly. Lene is producing some super fish and is certainly worth a trip.
UNDER PRESSURE. The competition scene is hectic, and this weekend is no different. This weekend the World Cup takers place on Lough Mask. Many Midlanders will fish this fantastic competition. On Wednesday August 4th on Owel we will fish the Dan Mullally Trophy. Fishing from 7pm-11pm. On Friday night August 6th the Michael Healy Memorial Cup will be fished on Lene. Also the Ulster cup is up for grabs for junior anglers. 7pm-11pm is the fishing time. I hope to make both competitions, so watch this space.
LOST CAMERA. We received a camera this week that was picked up on Owel. Its still working even after being in the lake. One photo shows an angler with a fine perch. If you know the lad, call into Westmeath Topic office and collect your camera. There are a lot of family shots, and we hope we find the owner.
GONE FISHING. That’s it for another week. We will be Out & About a lot over August weekend, and hopefully catch a few fish. If any of our fellow anglers catch a few crackers over the Bank Holiday weekend send us a few pics. This week we have quite a few photos of anglers with super fish.
