D.A.M. GOOD LURES.

Well I was back out on the lakes earlier this week, testing a few D.A.M good lures. Once again I invited my Kilkenny Angling pal Tommy Buggy up for a day, and he was gung ho when I contacted him. The forecast was not great, and with heavy winds overnight, and plenty of rain, but they had promised it would clear early morning. I was up early that Morning walking the dogs on the Banks of the Royal Canal, just before dawn. It was blowing a gale, and the rain was incredible. I was slightly tempted to ring Tommy, and tell him to leave it for another day, but conditions don’t really stop me these days. If it’s blowing a gale, I head for Rivers or small Lakes, where I can get shelter. I had just the spot picked for our lure test. Photos below

D.A.M. LURES. I had a selection of Effzett lures, which included the Striker, Skater, and Jawbreaker, and they all looked the business. They range from 11cm-15cm, with the Jawbreaker having a nice slider look. All were slow sinking, with the 11cm weighing 27g, and the bigger mouthful ranging from 35g-57g. Ideal for slow sinking into our deadly pike waters, and when worked fast across the surface really got pike excited. On the day I decided, that my favourite, pike lures would be put to one side, and just fish with the D.A.M. Effzett selection. I am not going to bore you with what it says on the box, or how these colourful charters swim around in a Testing Tank. So lets find out what the pike thought of these lures.

THE FISHING. Having arrived at my chosen lake we launched and started our first drift. The weather was terrible, and the rain had not cleared, but I could see bright conditions in the distance. The first two drifts drew blanks, and we were well into our 3rd drift working along a nice drop off ranging from 10 ft to 15ft, when I got my first hit. I had being chatting away to Tommy but was working the Piranha Skater nice an steady, and it was giving off some vibes as I jerked it back. The pike hit hard, and surfaced fast, as I put pressure on the fish. A cracker to start the day, and it was a real live wire, trashing water all lover the place. As it came near the boat I noticed it was barely hooked, and Tommy netted our first fish of the day. We were trying to get a nice pic of the pike being released, but it gave me a good soaking, as it burst from my hands. The photo is the proof.

Now we were up and running, and Tommy was under pressure as best fish wins a Fiver on our days out fishing. I swapped lures and started to entice small pike ranging 2-3lbs on the Bonefish coloured Skater. It’s a colour that would not catch my eye in a tackle shop, but the pike certainly took a shine to it, and in action was brilliant, even when retrieved fast. The weather was picking up, and the sun burst through the clouds, and certainly lifted the temperature. Plus it seemed to get the pike very active. Tommy took a shine to the Piranha, and started to have some fun catching small pike, but reckoned he had just the place where he would catch big doubles on this super bait.

So needless to say, it’s gone to a new home in Kilkenny. What harm, when I finish Testing Tackle and Gear I give it out on my site and to readers of my angling columns anyway. Now I was lashing out what I reckoned was the pick of the bunch, the Perch coloured 57g Striker. It’s a work of art, and is one of the most realistic looking Perch I have seen for some time. The Tail action really excited the pike, and the takes were magic. I had a cracking Morning and Tommy was trying all his best lures to beat my good double I had earlier in the Morning. Sure enough he started to get a few better fish, and caught one beautiful coloured fish on a SPRO BBZ, the fish was in mint condition and actually had the same colours as his lure.” Check Photo”. Sadly the day was changing once again and as evening fell it got bitter cold, with the rain returning. I gave the Jawbreakers a swim, and also a beautiful coloured Tench Striker, which in time will certainly catch fish for some lucky angler.

PHOTO GALLERY. I leave you with the photo Gallery from the lure test, plus a few picks I took showing how realistic the Perch colours looks, and the Rainbow trout in motion. A full range of D.A.M. lures should be available in all well stocked Angling Centres.
